Everything you need to consider before buying a swimming pool
Purchasing a swimming pool is a substantial investment. There are many factors that you need to take into consideration before you sign the dotted line. Once your pool is in the ground it’s there to stay, so, make sure you are investing in a product that is good for both you and your family’s needs.
You may be feeling a bit overwhelmed about it all so here are 5 things you need to consider before you hand over that hard-earned cash.
Purpose
First and foremost, what has motivated you to consider buying a pool? Do you live remotely and don’t have access to beaches or a community pool? Do you want a pool to make exercise more convenient and enjoyable? Or maybe you are looking to bring the family together more often?
Whatever it may be that you want to achieve by owning a pool, just bare it in mind when you are choosing features and making decisions later on.
Maintenance
Many swimming pools installed over the last 20 years operate in a similar way. The issue with these older pool types is water circulation is limited.
There are far more advanced systems on the market these days which ensure maximum circulation as well as chemical and energy efficiency. Saving you time and money in the long run.
When it comes to the operating system you chose, don’t chose the cheap option at the beginning for a quick fix…
“The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”
– Benjamin Franklin
Pool Type
There are three main types of underground pools:
Concrete
Vinyl
Fibreglass
Fibreglass is the most popular choice. But why?
Cost effective
Easier to keep clean and healthy
Quicker to install
25 year + warranty
Require less ongoing maintenance
Choosing a Company
There are many ways to research companies these days, word of mouth and online reviews are two of the most reliable. Investigate how long the company has been in business, how long they have been in the pool industry, does the warranty comply with consumer law requirements and what exactly is covered under that warranty?
A reliable pool company will happily allow you to get in touch with existing and previous customers. This will give you the opportunity to get firsthand knowledge on how the company operates and you will soon decide if that company is a good fit for you and your family. It is always good to see someone’s work for yourself so, ask if you can check out one of their completed projects in your area.
Size
It’s a question we are often asked and, it is an important one. Once your pool goes in, there is no room for mind changing. Unless you have the funds available to do so.
One limiting factor is, how much room have you got? Naturally if you have acres of land on your property you aren’t restricted but, if you are short on space you will have to consider a smaller pool. After that consideration, ask yourself the following questions:
Who will use the pool most and how often will they be using it?
Does anyone plan on using the pool to do laps?
How much patio do you want around the pool (consider what equipment will kept on the patio)?
Will you be entertaining often? If so, how many people will be there?
Will your family grow over the coming years?
After you have answered these questions, you will have a better understanding of how large a pool you and your family needs.
Investing in a pool is a very exciting time. It will add value to your property and contribute to a fabulous lifestyle. If you still have lots of questions, send us an email service@countrywidepools.com.au or give us a call 08) 9622 5571.
